PepperPlan

Academic planning platform with a prerequisite checker and a generator that produced 100+ personalized degree plans.

PepperPlan - a generated multi-year degree plan laid out by term after choosing a major and start year

Overview

PepperPlan came out of a real problem at Pepperdine: students struggled to get time with counselors and to build a reliable strategy for finishing their degree on schedule. So I built the counselor into software.

It's an ASP.NET web application over a database of courses and their prerequisites. Students assemble schedules while the app verifies prerequisite fulfillment as they go, and a generator produces personalized degree plans from academic year, major, and minor - over 100 plans generated. Selecting any course also surfaces alternative major or elective courses that satisfy the same requirement.

The course data itself was assembled in collaboration with Pepperdine's IT department - comprehensive major requirements plus a full course catalog - which became the foundation of the application's database. There's also a published write-up of the system.

  • Generated 100+ personalized degree plans from year, major, and minor.
